Week 9 - Reading Reflection

Reading Reflection
For each reading reflection post, I ask you to address the following areas:
1)         What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations?
Already so close to graduation you tend to re-learn certain concept multiple times. Many concepts are linked to multiple areas of studies. Currently taking finance, I have gone over basic concepts like the fundamentals of business organizations. Although these are familiar to me, a few are not. LLPs, S corporations, B corporations and L3Cs were are presented to me through this chapter. Never before. It was a surprise to learn of even more complex organization carried out by the melting pot of businesses evolving around the world on a day to day basis.

2)         Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
Patents, copyrights and trade marks are all suitable for organization to obtain through legal processes. What is confusing to me is the amount of renewals necessary for niches of businesses. The reason the market is so competitive it because of alternatives that happen to be very similar. Why can’t each patent, copy right and trade marks forever belong to their original owners? Wont this call for more innovation, smarter and more advanced alternatives rather than marked up copy cats that are just marketed to full a consumer base?

3)         If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
Is it suitable to further discuss the legal consequences of infringement upon business organizations in this chapter? Would a belief explanation make the chapter easier to understand when there is so many different paths taken when it comes to legal issues?

4)         Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?

I am never one to argue points if I am not well educated on. This chapter definitely delivered an insight to a different perspective than that of finance that I have been dealing with for a few months now.
